平常心

今天早上心血来潮拿了一本放置了一边有了一段时间的书《转念 － 達赖喇嘛的人生智慧 4》。 翻开书签置着的那页， 标题是《请先培养你的［平常心］》。读了觉得这一段文对这两天和朋有所谈的话题满有用。以下是这段原文。

在锻练平常心时，有时候使用想像力是有助益的。例如，你可以想像在你面前有三个不同的个体：某个你很亲密的人，某个你不喜欢`视为敌人的人, 某个你感到不在乎, 无所为的人. 然后, 对这三种人, 你自然的产生出一些情情绪和想法. 一旦产生出一些想法是, 你会注意到对亲人你有一种亲密与强烈的爱怜感受, 对你不喜欢的人感到敌意和冷淡, 而对一个无所谓的人, 你几乎根本没有任何感情可言.

此时, 试着和自己讨论:[为什么我对这三种人产生这么不同的情感? 为什么我会这么喜爱我的亲人?] 你可能开始明白你的喜爱有特定的理由: 这个人对你很亲爱, 因为他总是为你做这个和那个等等. 但是如果你问自己这些特徵是否永恒, 或那个人是否永远如此, 你可能必须承认不一定都是这样. 某个人今日可能是朋友而明天转成敌人. 从佛教的观点来看这是绝对千真万确的, 当我们考虑了许多世时 -- 某个在这世和你很亲密的人, 或许在另一世是你的敌人; 从这个观点来看, 就知道那种强烈得喜爱心是毫无必要的.

以同样的方法, 将你的注意力转向你不喜欢的人, 然后问自己: [基於什么理由, 我对这个人感到这么负面的情绪?] 很可能是因为他曾经对你做过某些事. 但是问问自己, 那个人在这一生中是否始终是你的敌人? 如果你考虑许多世的问题, 你将体会那个人在前世或许对你很亲密, 因此他当作你敌人的身份仅是短期的. 你开始明白对那个人如此怨恨和愤怒是不公平的.

最后, 仔细想想那个夹在中间, 你感到完全疏远的人. 如果你再问自己同样的问题, 你将体会那个人或许对你当下的生命有很少的关联, 或许在过去世对你很重要, 而在这一世, 在某些未来的点上他对你可能变得重要. 因此, 这类型的想像有助于平衡你对其他人感到的特别波动的情绪, 而建立起更稳定的情感基础, 跟平衡的亲密感受.

I losing my Windows Desktop skills...Good or Bad?

My wife was having problem connecting her office notebook to our home wifi lately, so as an IT guy, she turned to me to help solving the problem.

I took over her notebook and start doing some troubleshooting, and without long, I started to realize that my Windows desktop skills are diminishing! I have been using my Linux desktop for more than 2 years. The problem was intermittent, because there was once I managed to connect without much effort, but today it just refused to connect.

Well, i have to say i did not face any major problem on my linux desktop, and I even installed linux for home usage on the new notebook I got from a lucky draw.

So, time to throw away Windows OS? But the irony is people still want to keep using Windows although it has tones of problems. I have been hearing the same excuse over and over again, i.e. they are so used to Windows and are afraid of changing. What a sad case...

Good Governance?

我不明白我们的首相为什么永远都是讲一套做一套。即然说了”执行时必须确保公正及合理“ 为何不立可把错误就正过来。

政府这次引用内安令来扣留了三个人，分别为博客柏特拉，国会议员郭素沁，和记者陈云清，除了首相的支持者、警方、巫统的亲首相派外，所有其他人士都反对这项行动。因为警方及政府根本没有证据证明他们对国家安全构成威胁。纵观整件事的进展（可翻阅2008年九月13日及之后一个星期的报纸或网落新闻参考）， 这项行动根本违反了”执行时必须确保公正及合理“的原则。

一个领导人必需言行一至，才能以德服人。一个政府之首更加必需讲到做到.

Please lock up all our Children with ISA

Two days ago, our Malaysian Police had used ISA to detained 3 citizen without reasons and denied their basic human rights to have legal and judiciary support. One of the detainees, Tan - a journalist, was freed but the Government explained that her detention was to ensure her safety as the police intelligence learnt that her life was threatened.

I think our Home Ministry should use ISA to lock up all our children, to prevent they from being killed and kidnapped. There have been many cases of children been taken away from their parents, killed or status not know and still missing. Our "intelligent" police are still not able to find where they are or capture the offenders.

Our children are in great danger, their lives are being threatened. I beg the Home Ministry to quickly lock them up immediately.

Tough to get hotel rooms in Singapore

Got a last minute assignment to go Singapore for a business trip on coming Monday (Dec 10) last night. So, first thing this morning was to email to my office admin to help getting me a flight ticket and room in Singapore.

Getting a flight ticket is not an issue, but getting a room is a big problem. For some reasons, all hotels are fully booked. This is not the first time. A few months back my colleagues were having the same problems trying to get hotel rooms in Singapore. They ended up 3 sharing 1 room in a small hotel in some back lane, that sort.

Singapore is really successful in attracting business people and tourists, so much so that its hotels are fully booked most of the time. Whenever there are events and conventions, the island city is sure short of hotel rooms. I think the government must keep building hotels. But what a good problem to solve!

买太空船来发展太空科技

11 月 28 日 的 中国报引述科學、工藝與革新部政務次長拿督莫哈末魯丁在国会的答复: "政府決定購買太空船，主要是希望掌握有關科技，以便未來可以自制自己的火箭升空."

我想请问一下,政府计画要花多少年时间来掌握这项科技呢? 我们的国产车公司花了超过20年的时间,在日本三菱汽车公司的技术转移和购买莲花汽车之后也还没能制造出自己本身的引擎.

真的不明白我们的国家领袖们境可以这么的花钱.

50 年来的非马来民族的问题

11 月 28 日 南洋商报引述了Samy Vellu 的一句话 "涉及印裔族群的问题并非在国家独立50年来，从未获得解决或处理。" 我认为应该加多以下的一句: "只是政府优先解决马来民族的问题."

国阵里的成员党包括马华和国大党不管如和也不能够反对, 他们只可以拿"协商精神", "通过协商来解决问题" 的借口来应付人民的不满.

Abdullah's Promise on Anti Corruption

Well, we have heard him 4 years ago when he took office from Dr M, that one of his main work is to make sure the government is "CLEAN". Four years gone, and we have not see much progress.

One of the hot issues is the RM 4.6B Port Klang Free Zone case. Have Abdullah is concern and serious about corruption, why he allowed his cabinet members to not directly answer the questions? Why there is no Independent Inquiry set up to look into the case?

Am back to blog again

Oh, time really flies. The last blog was 1 year ago.

Well, a lot had happened over this one year. Not going to mention them in this blog now.

Just got my streamyx line up three days ago. Went through a terrible experience with TM again. I thought they improved but they disappointed me.

I started my new phone line application in April (that's when I planned to move into this new home of mine). Then I found out that my house has not got a phone line from the switch board, although my neighbors are all wired up. I am sure of this as the database in TM shows the house numbers of all my neighbors except mine.

Well, the officer at the TM Point put in a request to the system for the technician to do the inspection. I also gave him my handphone number in case the technician need to enter my house for inspection.

Two months passed, no 1 called and I checked with TM again on the status. Guess you know that, the status is still as in April. So I told the officer to escalate the matter, as I am ready to move in and wanted to have the Internet access.

Well, phone calls, visit to TM Point, on and on, as you would have expected, nothing progressed. Finally I email to them and cc to the TM CEO. Suprisingly or coincidently, or shall I say that's the way things get done, the technician called me in a week's time for physical inspection at my house.

In a couple of days, they came and pulled the cable into my house immediately.

Next, the nightmare of getting Streamyx service up. Calls after calls, reminders after reminders, still no response. I had to insist that they change my request to "no installer needed" after calling them 3 times. They just don't listen and learn. Moron.

Well again, numerous phone calls, then only they able to activate my service and now I am on the Net.

Don't know when this kind of trademark "tak apa" attitude of Malaysian will change in the Government and Government Linked Companies. Getting sick of it.

Malaysian Culture - 1

Go to any fast food restaurant, you will see everyone will leave their mess on the table and just walk away after their meal. Be it a well dressed lady, an office manager wearing a suit, a teenage punk, a school students, etc. All walks of life in Malaysia just do not pick up the paper wrapper, empty drinking cups, etc. and leave a clean table for the next patron.

I hope I can guess the correct answer, i.e. there will be a cleaner from the restaurant to clean the place for the next customer after I leave. On the other hand, I paid for the food as well as the services to clean the place.

Have you every see Malaysians staring at a dirty table in a fast food restaurant that is full of customer during lunch time? They will have this kind of look that tell you, "What kind of people was there at this place? Why there are such people who can mess up a place like this? Why the restaurant cleaner is still not here to clean this mess?" All kind of questions will arise, but when you stay long enough to see them finish their meal, they will also be another gang of people to mess up the table and leave the mess behind, waiting for the cleaner to clean up the place.

So, Malaysians, if you want a better place to live, start cleaning your own mess after your meal in a fast food restaurant.
